NORTH FORK BAPTIST CHURCH TO CELEBRATE 260TH ANNIVERSARY
On September 28th starting at 11AM North Fork Baptist Church in Purcellville will celebrate its 260th anniversary. The anniversary celebration will commemorate the church’s long and interesting history from its beginning as The First Baptist Church of North Fork in 1765 to the doctrinal split which resulted in the formation and building of the “new” church right next door in 1835 which was known as the Second Baptist Church of North Fork.
The public is invited to join us for this historic celebration.
History buffs will be interested to know that on April 5, 1865 Colonel John Mosby celebrated the creation of his 8th Company, “Company H” on the grounds of the North Fork Regular Church, the “new” church.
An abbreviated church service will be followed by brief remarks on the history of the church and the once thriving community of North Fork. Tours of the now privately owned cemetery will be conducted by the Ketoctin Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution. The earliest recorded burial there was in 1801 and includes graves of soldiers from the American Revolution, the War of 1812 and the Civil War.
Attendees will be welcome to tour the new church and also walk around the grounds and gardens of the original church.
Lunch will be served after the service and remarks. Limited tickets are available at northforkbaptist.com. Please see the invitation below for details.
